Doktor Antonin Mikolasek, my grandfather was czech and came from Litomysl, the town where czech composer Bedrich Smetana was born but his feeling as a world citizen brought him on many places. Especially Sutivan was the place of his love. He spent time here since 1908 years before and after first world war and he served Sutivan as a public doctor.
Four of his seven children were born here, as well my father…his name Adrian was a piece of Adria, he brought back to Czechoslovakia. Unfortunately my father was in Sutivan only until his two years. So it was my turn to follow the family steps and – my wife and me – decided to visit Sutivan – and we found even three people with personal memories of the family of Doktor Mikolasek.
Of course we were proud to find in many houses copies of postcards with his project – Sutivan, Klimaticka Stanica – and many people know until today about his plans to build a sanatorium, Klimaticka stanica, in the bay Gomilica. (cave je höhle)
In the year 2008 I took the oportunity to make a familly memory of his first stay in Sutivan...but the town Sutivan took this also as oportunity to celebrate 100 years of beginning of tourism and frendship with Czech friends of Sutivan. It was a big manifestation , I wrote the special „Sutivan Song“ and was presenting my film about this family story „My place under the sun“. As a special guest the ambasador of Czech Republik Dr. Karel Kuhnl was here and a team from czech state TV made a video document about Doktor Mikolasek which was already many times reprised on the main czech sender.
In that time we could buy with help of our friends here an old house and so already fifteen years is Sutivan one of our „home“ . As the refugee family, we know well about the value - to be welcome somewhere as at home. .. We live since 1982 in Switzerland with politic asyl (in past czechoslovakia politics, we had problems because of my song about Jan Palach story..)
For this year, I found a new oportunity to celebrate some100 years of Mikolasek in Sutivan. At first I thought as a joke – but I see – before hundret years as well today it is a hard work to make something for public, for the town, for people.
On one of postcards with Klimaticka Stanica, Doktor Mikolasek... you see the very new trees of public park in Sutivan. As I have heard, it was the first public park on Brac at all. Other parks were private and behind a big walls.
One daughter of Doktor Mikolasek, we say teta Pola, has written in herr autentic memoars.... „before beginning of the first world war, my father grounded a public park in Sutivan...“
So – june 2014 is the last oportunity to make the 100 years celebration. And this subject is no joke, the town Sutivan is just now speaking about new plans for public spaces and they welcome my idea...and so old history could be a start in something new. I think Doktor Antonin would be glad to see Sutivan today ...many his dreams came true ...and some day we build his Klimaticka Stanica in Gomilica.
I am not doktor, architect, polititian....but I compesed again a very new song specially about the Sutivan Park. Come on Friday 27.6.2014 20h to park and sing with me, a group of children from Sutivan: „Yes, yes, yes, my park is my place“
On this event we shall have many important guests again, president of Sutivan, of Turist Ofiice and presiden of Czech minority in Croatia, Mate Pajic from Daruvar.
And not least the Consu l of Czech Republik Dr. Juraj Varga.
